You're Looking at One of the Farthest Confirmed Galaxies Found by JWST

After JWST launched, astronomers were racing to discover the farthest galaxies, seen just a few hundred million years after the Big Bang. Although several early galaxies were announced, everyone was waiting for detailed analysis to know for sure. One of these, nicknamed "Maisie's galaxy, " was spectroscopically confirmed to be 390 million years old when it released its light, with a redshift of z=11.4. This record will be broken soon, as the discovery team is analyzing ten other galaxies thought to be even older.

On Serious Trouble, we’ve got Judge Chutkan and restrictions on Trump’s use of discovery, Twitter sanctioned for resisting a subpoena for Trump’s data, SBF jailed, Rudy Giuliani spelling and thinking badly, and rich little shits misbehaving. BUT we’re recording another episode today about Georgia!

Started a little experiment this summer. In the end, I'm not sure if it'll be enough soil for the moonflowers I planted in the hanging basket but I've managed to train it up my improvised twine trellis. Payoff will be if it blooms because moonflower flowers are huge. The spikes at the base along with cayenne pepper are squirrel deterrent b/c one of them likes to dig at the plant base and exposes the root ball.

One day in the 11th grade, a friend and I were sitting in the cafeteria, desperately trying to recall the name of the creatures from Land of the Lost. A year later, in the middle of a class, he spun around, pointed at me, and said, “SLEESTAKS.” This was our Google in the 80s.

I know I'm just a liberal dipweed, but can you imagine the world we could have if instead of making war we made hospitals and universities and theaters? What if all that money were put into housing people instead of blowing them up?
Imagine all that energy focussed on making things good rather than bad.

Yeah, it's definitely not an easy decision to make and for someone like me that has no income there are nothing except for tax credits to help offset my investment in getting to net-zero

I'll not tell you how much adding #solar and/or #batteries will increase your building's resale value, but it seems to clearly do that according to multiple sources though so even if moving in a few years you can recoup some of your investment towards a stable climate at least.ecowatch.com/solar/solar-panel?

Every few months there is an article in the ABC about some missing infrastructure in the 'growth areas'. They never seem to address that we've knowingly grown populations in areas without infrastructure instead of growing populations in areas where there is already infrastructure.

We're building houses in the middle of nowhere and only later being surprised that these houses also need schools, trains, libraries, shops, cafes , roads and jobs.

We should be growing the areas that already have infrastructure

Is there a #mastodon consensus position on #tesla ? Obviously ev’s are environmentally positive. Personally, I despise #musk and deactivated my #twitter account a few months ago. But for #ev ’s the Tesla was better and cheaper than others we looked at, and was *actually available* … It’s a conundrum. 😞
