As a teen, let's say 50 years ago, my parents had a Time, Life or National Geo, with a pullout section on #ClimateChange (or global warming back then). It had world maps showing uninhabitable region predictions that now prove eerily accurate. I remember the green, livable part of N. America was Canada. That's probably their big miss, since that's on fire and on the way to being unlivable, too.

A powerful explosion in the area where an optical mechanical plant is located in Moscow region. The plant also produces military equipment.
Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant has been operating for 86 years. Its website reports that "the favorite sight of Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev" was produced there. The plant is part of the Rostech and is a leading developer and manufacturer of military optics. In 2022, they bragged about developing a new binocular for the Russian Navy.

@violetmadder@kolektiva.social @MKSinSA Heard a report on the radio today that most of Iran may not be habitable by 2050. I imagine this could be true for much of the lower latitude desert regions.
The human species does not appear wired to make the necessary choices to beat this. Our economies (humans) will fight this tooth and nail.
If we ever cut back emissions, some of this could be dialed back if we don’t wait for all the forests to burn.

@MKSinSA Lantana are setting new buds, and the Zinna are quite happy as long as they get enough water. We are watering our flower beds 3 times a week. Some plants Ike the dahlias are struggling. 🌻
@MKSinSA It’s only been inside for a few days, it will take some time to see. Before we put it outside back in March, it flourished sitting in the East facing kitchen window, happy as can be. 🙂

Awesome to see @IceCubesApp now allows editing of #TagGroups, a feature unique to the app.
My wish would be to have the app allow iCloud syncing so that settings, including Tag Groups, would be synced to Ice Cubes installations on all my devices. 🤞🏻

Judging by the reaction to the Barbie movie here (and knowing my classically boomer aunt) she was probably just oblivious to the subtext.
I want to ask my aunt if she was uncomfortable because she thought it was racist, or *because they pointed out the racism that actually exists*?
